This month we show you where to virtually test drive mobile phones and resize images for free. We have also stumbled upon a site popular for its wit and sarcasm.

TryPhone.com

WHAT IS IT? Finding the right mobile phone just got a lot easier. TryPhone gives you the ability to try before you buy. Their interactive online virtual handsets let you test drive mobile devices, applications, content and services. The site is a boon for those trying to evade sales talk.

THE GOOD: The site provides onscreen simulations of handsets; it is a perfect solution to avoid pressure. You can take your own time to review each phone and their distinct features. The concept is very simple — users can use a virtual phone to know what the interface feels like.

THE BAD: Not all functions can be tried out and the site tends to slow down. Although customisation options are available, they do not take effect on the phone demo. It is doubtful if TryPhone can simulate more complex interaction methods in the future.

VERDICT: A great idea, but a limited selection.

picresize.com
Image resizing can be a pain if you don’t have the right tools. Image editors are usually rather expensive, take up lots of space and are probably more than you need. PicResize is a perfect alternative. It is web-based, so downloading is not required. Just upload the image you want to resize and get to work. You can customise the images and add a few effects. PicResize supports JPEG, GIF and PNG formats. And you don’t have to pay a thing to use it!

TheOatmeal.com
The site showcases snarky, in-your-face comics, quizzes and how-to articles. This popular
web comic features a unique breed of simple, colourful drawings accompanied by irreverent, sometimes repulsive text. The topics, those familiar to Internet addicts, take a humorous, surprising tone.

A favourite for the avoidance of safe humour, TheOatmeal strikes a careful balance between gross-out jokes and more benign comics. The humour is crass as are the illustrations, but wildly entertaining if you’re looking for a laugh.
