When? July 1-September 1 | Event? Arts exhibition | Venue? Albareh Art Gallery
Arab contemporary artists articulate their environment and creativity through their work in this summer exhibition.
Different in terms of their style, sensitivities and approaches, they are bonded by their common heritage. As Albareh Gallery displays its expansive collection of works of Arab contemporary artists, the focus is firmly on the artists’ view of the region, lives of people around them and how they see the relationship between individual and his environment.
The artworks of Modhir Ahmed, Zena Assi, Mohammed Omar Khalil, Faisel Laibi Sahi, Farideh Lashai, Hakim Ghazali, Ebrahim Bu Saad and Mohammad Al Mahdi will be showcased during the period.
Mohammad Omar Khalil
His paintings are his secret world. According to his needs, Khalil integrates in them all kinds of materials such as images, textures, pieces of wood, metal and paper that are transformed by the hands of the artist to find their right place in the larger context. The effect of the collage technique is important in the construction of his works and some of his surfaces include areas of patterned commercial fabric or reproductions of old paintings, of posters or cuttings from newspapers and magazines. In his latest works, Mohammad Omar Khalil revisits ‘Battle of San Romano’, the most famous triptych of Florentine artist Paolo Uccello.
Ebrahim BuSaad
Known for his experimentation with raw materials as well as colour, perspective and subject matter, BuSaad’s artistic expression is both colourful and sensual. Muharraq-born BuSaad is in his elements when he portrays the familiar back streets, people, sea dhows, sky, palm trees and sparrows of old Muharraq Town. The artist has managed to capture the collecting momentum spreading across the Middle East and Arab world through his works.
