The British School of Bahrain - Leading With Purpose

As The British School of Bahrain celebrates its 30th anniversary, Executive Headteacher Liz Stanley reflects on its enduring values, global impact and bold vision for the future of education.

This year marks a significant milestone for BSB as it celebrates 30 years of delivering world-class education in the Kingdom. At the helm is Ms. Stanley, Executive Headteacher since 2024, whose forward-thinking leadership is already shaping the next chapter in the school’s story.

Ms. Stanley brings over two decades of experience to BSB, having led top-tier schools across the UK, UAE and Oman. She says: “I was drawn to BSB by its established excellence, global reputation and, most importantly, its warm, inclusive community. Leading such a dynamic and diverse school is a genuine privilege.”

Her impact has been immediate. Within her first year, Ms. Stanley launched a landmark campaign in partnership with UNICEF to provide access to education for 10,000 underprivileged children in Palestine, Senegal and India. She explains: “This initiative honours BSB’s journey by giving back. It reflects who we are – a community that leads with compassion and purpose.”

Innovation is central to her vision. The school is now integrating cutting-edge platforms like Inspired AI, the Inspired Metaverse and a global digital study platform, equipping students for a rapidly evolving world.

“We are not just celebrating the past,” Ms Stanley notes. “We are also preparing our students for a future that demands creativity, resilience and global awareness.”

BSB’s reputation as a centre of academic excellence continues to grow. In 2024, it was named one of the top 150 private schools globally and ranked in the top 15 in the Middle East. This success, however, goes beyond academic scores.

“We measure success by the whole child,” Ms. Stanley says. “Whether it’s our students winning international music competitions or excelling in global sports tournaments, we celebrate every achievement.”

Equally important is student wellbeing. BSB’s award-winning 360-degree approach ensures a supportive, low-stress environment. “We empower students to manage their own mental health,” she explains. “From peer mentoring and counselling to mental health ambassadors, our structures are proactive and inclusive.”

The school’s distinctive culture is also shaped by its strong parental and community engagement. “Our parents are true partners,” Ms. Stanley shares.

“From our Parent Ambassadors to the weekly BSB Playdate for toddlers, we foster a spirit of collaboration and belonging.”

With exciting developments on the horizon – including campus expansions, international scholarships and new university partnerships – BSB is poised to continue its leadership in global education.

Reflecting on her goals, Ms Stanley says: “I hope to leave a legacy of academic rigour, kindness and innovation. BSB is not just a school – it’s a launchpad for confident, creative leaders of tomorrow.

“I want to extend my gratitude to our dedicated staff, engaged parents and hardworking students. It is through our collective efforts that BSB remains a beacon of excellence in education. I look forward to seeing our students continue to thrive and make their mark on the world.”

As BSB looks to the next 30 years, it remains steadfast in its mission: nurturing excellence while preparing students to thrive lead and inspire in a changing world.
