TV & Movies Releases - May 2025

May is packed with fresh TV shows and films, from gripping dramas to blockbuster hits. Shrishtii Shah takes a look at the latest releases keeping audiences entertained across different services.

THUNDERBOLTS*
In Thunderbolts*, a ragtag crew of antiheroes is brought together for a mission no one else can – or will – take on. The team includes Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker – each with a shadowed past and reasons to distrust the others. With betrayal lurking around every corner and redemption hanging by a thread, Thunderbolts* promises gritty action, complex dynamics and a deeper look into the darker corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

HAVOC
A botched drug deal leaves a seasoned detective battered and bloodied – but far from out. As he claws his way through the city’s seedy underbelly to rescue a politician’s estranged son, he unearths a sinister web of corruption that reaches deeper than anyone imagined.

UNTIL DAWN
What starts as a search for answers turns into a terrifying cycle of death and rebirth. When Clover and her friends revisit the remote valley where her sister vanished, they’re hunted by a masked killer – only to wake up and relive the horror again and again. Until Dawn blends slasher thrills with a mind-bending time loop for a chilling twist on survival horror.

THE AMATEUR
When a CIA decoder’s wife is killed in a terrorist attack, his grief turns to rage – and then to action. Denied justice by his own agency, Charlie Heller takes matters into his own hands, leveraging his intellect to hunt down those responsible.

ADOLESCENCE
Adolescence is a haunting family drama wrapped in the shell of a legal thriller. A 13-year-old boy is accused of murder, shaking his family to its core. As the investigation unfolds, the cracks in their seemingly ordinary life begin to show. The series examines themes of guilt, parenting, and the slippery nature of truth. With powerful performances and cinematic visuals, Adolescence has captivated viewers and critics alike.

BLACK MIRROR
Returning with new episodes, Black Mirror remains as provocative and disturbing as ever. This anthology explores near-futures where technological breakthroughs reflect – and often amplify – our darkest instincts. From artificial intelligence gone rogue to nightmarish social rating systems, each standalone story confronts viewers with uncomfortable questions about ethics, power, and what it means to be human. As always, the show is eerie, stylish and scarily prescient.

FRANKLIN
To save his daughter, a master counterfeiter must do the unthinkable: reunite with his ex to forge the perfect fake. What unfolds is a tense, emotional heist driven by desperation and genius. Franklin is as much a pulse-pounding crime drama as it is a heartfelt story of fatherhood and sacrifice.

GOVERNMENT CHEESE
Fresh out of prison, Hampton is ready to reclaim his place at the head of the family – but the home he returns to isn’t the one he left behind. In his absence, his wife and sons have built an unconventional, fragile new dynamic and Hampton’s reappearance threatens to unravel it all. Tense, emotional and laced with dark humour, Government Cheese explores the cost of absence, the meaning of family and the chaos that comes when the past collides with a reinvented present.

YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS
In Your Friends and Neighbours, a disgraced hedge fund manager hits rock bottom – and turns to burglary to survive. Targeting the wealthy homes in his elite neighbourhood, he quickly discovers that the people behind those perfect façades are hiding more than just valuables. This twist-filled thriller peels back layers of privilege and deceit, revealing just how far people will go to protect their secrets.
