American Mission Hospital’s much anticipated Island Annual Charity Classic Golf tournament returns for its 23rd edition this month.
Companies and individual teams are looking forward to an exciting time of golfing at American Mission Hospital’s 23rd AMH Island Classic Annual Charity Golf Tournament. The three-day event will be taking place from October 27 to October 29.
“His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa allows us the use of his private golf course in Saffriya for the tournament. We are very grateful for His Majesty’s ongoing patronage for over 23 years,” said the corporate CEO of American Mission Hospital, Dr. George Cheriyan.
“After a two-year pandemic break, we are glad that we are able to resume the annual golf tournament where avid golfers, from Bahrain and abroad, come together to display their skills on the golf course,” he added.
Founded by missionary doctors 120 years ago, the not-for-profit American Mission Hospital first opened its doors to Bahraini community in 1903. It has been serving in providing healthcare ever since.
The golf tournament raises funds which help in upgrading the hospital infrastructure, and in conducting various community outreach programmes.
AMH works with many charity and humanitarian organisations by offering free medical and surgical help to those affected by Down syndrome, geriatric illnesses, deaf and mute complications, blindness, and various other problems.
Working with orphanages, rehabilitations centres, and homes for the elderly, the hospital also gives medical support and guidance through active healthcare, and also through workshops, seminars, counselling and interactions as a part of the AMH community outreach work.
For the poor and the underprivileged, the Zwemer Clinic in AMH Manama, provides healthcare at bare minimum charges if not completely free.
The AMH Island Classic Annual Golf Tournament, which first started in 1997, is now usually held in October-November, and has become an important part of Bahrain’s sporting calendar.
Large corporate houses of Bahrain participate in the event as sponsors, players, and other kinds of supporters.
The winners, sponsors, and organisers will also be meeting at the Gala Night, at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa on Sunday, October 30.
