Torn by War, United by Love

After decades apart, Yosief and Rose’s love story is proof that true love never fades. Reunited in Addis Ababa, they’re now ready to savour the adventures they’ve been waiting for.

Yosief and Rose’s love story is one of resilience, fate and enduring connection. Their journey began in a small town in northern Ethiopia, where they met while both working as teachers. Yosief vividly remembers the first time he saw Rose, captivated by her beauty and grace. “I was stunned,” he recalls. After a mutual friend introduced them, they quickly felt a connection.

However, life soon took them on separate paths due to the outbreak of civil war. Rose moved abroad and eventually married, while Yosief stayed in Ethiopia and also married. Despite the separation, Yosief never stopped thinking about Rose. “She was always in my heart,” he says.

Years later, fate reunited them in Addis Ababa. Their reconnection felt seamless, as though no time had passed. They spent time sharing their experiences and what they had learned over the years. “There was a familiarity in our connection,” says Rose, “but there was also much to catch up on. Despite our years apart, our bond remained strong.” For Yosief, his feelings for Rose never faded. “I think God had a plan for us,” he reflects. Rose, too, found that the love they shared had always stayed with her.

When they finally walked down the aisle together after 30 years, it was a deeply emotional moment for both. “It was probably the happiest moment of my life,” says Yosief. Rose adds, “It was more than a ceremony. It was the culmination of all those years apart and the joy of finally being together.” Yosief and Rose believe that the key to enduring love is keeping positive, cherishing good memories and trusting in faith.

Now that they’re together again, Yosief and Rose look forward to slowing down and enjoying life together. “We’ve worked hard for the last 30 years,” Yosief shares. “Now it’s time to take things a little slower and enjoy life, just the two of us.” Rose is equally excited about their future, saying: “We have so many adventures ahead of us.”
