Credible-I is a career and college consulting firm that has become a mainstay in the Kingdom thanks to its success in guiding many young adults towards their higher education dreams. As part of our India in Bahrain supplement, Dr. Arpita Dutta shares her entrepreneurial path in establishing this business, as well as what inspires and challenges her.
For Dr. Dutta, teaching has been a lifelong passion. Stemming from her tenure as a professor since 2002, she has consistently felt a deep-seated obligation to enhance the education sector. “Teaching has always been my passion, and I find the most satisfaction when I witness my students thinking beyond conventional boundaries to unlock their true potential,” she says.
In 2016, as she began facilitating her daughter’s academic journey, she felt overwhelmed by the myriad of decisions and paths that lay before her. In the absence of someone to guide her, she took the time to study and research the most effective higher education practices, adding to her expertise and knowledge from her years as an educator. “I started out by advising my daughter and her friends on parent forums, and soon I became the go-to mum on the topic,” she explains.
In 2018, a close friend suggested that she should create a business and infrastructure to methodically support these students. With a focus on sincerity rather than financial gain, Credible-I was born.
However, doing all the work alone would have been an impossible task, so she sought out Jayati Chowdhury, an experienced English teacher and writer with a collection of published poems and an ongoing blog. Ms. Chowdhury works as an academic consultant for university applications to help with the rigorous process of creating essays to complement student profiles, which are crucial to successful admissions.
Central to Credible-I’s ethos is a focus on students’ individuality and unique needs. “Every child is special and has a life path that can suit them best, whether they know it yet or not,” Ms. Dutta argues. “The challenge is connecting their dreams to concrete steps and directions to follow. Sometimes they may prefer a particular educational institution, but alternative institutions located in various regions of the globe that specialise in their desired field of study offer the opportunity to collaborate with highly knowledgeable professors who can significantly enhance their learning experience. This is where our experience and knowledge are valuable inputs in their decision-making process.”
The pair work closely with students to identify their unique strengths and help them use those strengths to develop a strong application. However, this process requires a lot of introspection and self-awareness. “Amidst the demands of academic assignments, homework and extracurricular activities, these children are deprived of the opportunity for introspection and self-discovery,” Ms. Chowdhury asserts. “Each individual has valuable life experiences that they frequently fail to recognise. I derive immense satisfaction from engaging in meaningful conversations with children, guiding them to gain clarity about their identity and aspirations. It’s gratifying to watch them grow through this process.”
Credible-I has received glowing testimonials from students and parents, with clients routinely being granted admissions to top schools both in the US and around the world, including Ivy League Schools and Imperial College London.
