by: Kristian Harrison - Sat, 01 Mar 2025
Kristian Harrison took the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado for a thrilling test drive across Bahrain, pushing its off-road prowess and luxury features to the limit in an unforgettable 4x4 experience.
This new beast from the Japanese marque stays true to its heritage while introducing modern enhancements that make it one of the most compelling SUVs in its class. After an exhilarating test drive through Bahrain’s diverse landscapes, I can confidently say that this is one of the best 4x4 experiences I’ve had in my career.
Power and Performance
The new Land Cruiser Prado offers a 2.4L turbo gasoline engine, delivering 278 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth acceleration and seamless gear shifts on our dusty highways. The addition of Electric Power Steering (EPS) enhances manoeuvrability, making it effortless to handle both on and off-road.Off-Road Mastery
The Prado truly shines when taken off the beaten path. Bahrain’s shallow dunes, rocky terrain, and coastal stretches provided the perfect backdrop to test its off-road prowess. Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system, featuring six different drive modes – dirt, mud, sand, deep snow (funnily enough, I didn’t use this one), rock and auto – ensured maximum traction in every scenario. The Multi-Terrain Monitor, which uses four cameras to provide real-time visibility of surrounding conditions, was a particularly cool feature.
On-Road Comfort and Luxury
While its off-road capabilities are unmatched, the Land Cruiser Prado also excels in urban environments. The premium seven-seater interior is both spacious and luxurious, featuring ventilated front seats, a versatile seating configuration and high-quality materials throughout. The 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto integration and a 10-speaker JBL audio system enhance the driving experience, making long journeys more enjoyable. Additionally, the panoramic view monitor and Heads-Up Display (HUD) contribute to greater driving confidence.
Striking Exterior and Safety Features
Toyota has crafted a bold yet functional design for the new Prado, incorporating an aggressive grille, striking LED headlights and a variety of eye-catching colour options, including the unique two-tone Sand with a light grey roof. The SUV is also equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, which includes a Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring. Verdict
The new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is an SUV that seamlessly blends power, luxury and versatility. Whether tackling the highways, cruising through the city or going off the beaten track into the desert, it delivers an unmatched driving experience. If you’re looking for a vehicle that embodies adventure and refinement, the Land Cruiser Prado is one to have a closer look at.
