Kristian Harrison takes the wheel of the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed First Edition, experiencing a rare blend of luxury, power and craftsmanship.
Let’s get one thing straight from the start, this motor is the most mesmerising machine I’ve had the pleasure of laying eyes on. Seriously, if cars could flirt, this one was basically giving me smouldering winks from across the car park. That dazzling Candy Red looking like liquid metal laced with rubies was as close to my favourite car colour ever.
Once I collected my jaw from the floor and slid into the plush interior (Pillar Box Red and Beluga hide, thank you very much), you’re met with the kind of comfort that makes you wonder why you ever bothered with anything less. It’s got the full First Edition treatment – think Mulliner detailing, precision diamond quilting, Dinamica headliner – the works. The seats not only cosset but perform actual magic tricks on your posture, thanks to the Front Seat Comfort Spec and wellness features.
And then there’s that screen.
You push the start button and boom – the Bentley Rotating Display flips like something out of a Bond film. One moment, you’re looking at an elegant panel of veneer, the next a 12.3-inch touchscreen whirs into view. Or, if you’re feeling discreet, hit the ‘Screen’ button and it flips again to reveal a trio of analogue dials – a gentle reminder that while the tech is cutting edge, this Bentley hasn’t forgotten its classic roots.
But let’s talk performance, shall we? Under the sculpted bonnet lies an Ultra-Performance Hybrid Powertrain that combines the V8 power you know with an unprecedented boost of torque from its electric motor to deliver truly astonishing performance: 1,000Nm of torque and 771bhp, delivering 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 335 kmph. That’s not ‘quick for a Bentley’, that’s just quick, full stop. And thanks to the carbon ceramic brakes, it stops as confidently as it goes.
The sound? Glorious. That deep, baritone growl becomes a snarling crescendo as the revs climb – a guaranteed way to raise the pulse, particularly of unsuspecting passengers.
The handling is sharper than you’d expect from a car this luxurious. The combination of four-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, and Bentley Dynamic Ride keeps things composed yet engaging, especially when you switch it into Sport mode. The car seems to shrink around you as you open it up on the highway with a grin plastered across your face. And yet, when you dial it back while weaving through the tighter city streets, it glides like a magic carpet.
There are faster cars, flashier cars, maybe even more technologically complex ones. But none blend opulence, performance and presence quite like this. The Continental GT Speed First Edition isn’t just about driving – it’s about arriving, in every sense of the word.
